Seit Anbeginn beschäftigt die Menschheit die Vorstellung von dem, was nach dem Leben kommt – und es bleibt ewig eine imaginäre Vermutung. Noch nicht einmal die Frage, ob der Tod ewig oder gar nicht von Dauer ist, kann beantwortet werden.
Meister, gibt es ein Leben nach dem Tod?
Ich weiß es nicht.
Aber bist du denn nicht der Meister?
Ja, aber kein toter Meister.
Geschichte aus dem alten Japan
Dieses Thema beschäftigt die Künstlerin Hadmut Bittiger – wie viele andere auch – schon seit langem, gewissermaßen mit zunehmender Intensität, so dass sie schließlich eine Installation dazu schuf. Eine Wandarbeit, die aus ausgesuchten Versen und Gedanken von Künstlern und Philosophen zum Thema Leben nach dem Tod besteht. Besagte Verse schrieb Hadmut Bittiger mit transparentem, flüssigem Material, befreite die Schrift vom Untergrund und hängte die losen Satzbahnen nebeneinander. An der Wand lesbare, breite Schriftbahnen, die mittels Transparenz lebendige Schatten warfen. Zusätzlich begann sich durch leichte Bewegungen ein Körper zu formen, der unaufhaltsam nach oben gezogen wird.
Die Wandarbeit wird begleitet von einem Buch mit den zitierten Versen.

No one knows what happens after death. Believers view the subject differently to atheists or scientists. Life after death – that’s a question that is widely thought about and discussed. It has preoccupied humans since time immemorial.
Master, is there life after death?
I do not know.
But aren‘t you the master?
Yes, but not a dead master.

I had thought about this complex topic for some time before I decided to address it through an installation. In the process, I created a wall work consisting of a series of verse and thoughts by writers, musicians and philosophers on the subject of „life after death“.
I wrote the lines with transparent, liquid material, eliminating the writing surface and hanging them in loose sentences next to each other. As a result, the lines cast shadows on the wall through their transparency. When I carefully began to move the lines, a body seemed to emerge from the symphony of verse and it seemed to be pulled upwards, as if by an invisible force.
