MOVE
Berlin-Neukölln was always a rough neighbourhood and not only because of the state of the streets. Now it’s “in” and attracting new people all the time. They bring their ideas, they’re bold, they create art projects and open stores, cafés, galleries, and the like, transforming the streetscape: diversity is becoming more and more diverse.
At the same time, more and more people are tackling social problems with commitment and creativity. This is not easy and calls for a great deal of courage and perseverance with uncertain outcome.
In the Moravian Church, grey paving stones made of paper form a path along the central aisle and up the stairs. Towards the end, loudspeakers have been built into 20 of these stones: the press of a button gives voice to people who run a gallery, a café, an art project, a social institution. Also to be seen are a clustering number of characteristic features, forming a colourful concluding mosaic, showing how, with creativity, determination, and courage, a grey district takes on colour and diversity.
